Announcement: Building Bridges Training receives a National Lottery Fund grant

Building Bridges Training • July 16, 2024

Building Bridges are delighted to have received a National Lottery award from The National Lottery Community Fund, to continue our work following the publication of our book Rights in Practice; Stories of Citizenship, in December 2023.

Our project will continue to raise awareness for people with a learning disability of their rights under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (UNCRPD). We will also gather more personal stories of citizenship.

Group of people with learning disabilities

We will be arranging some regional workshops to encourage people with learning disabilities and their allies to think about how they can claim their rights as citizens. We will invite local people with a learning disability and the organisations who support them.

The workshops will start with an interactive presentation about the UNCRPD, so people understand more about rights and citizenship. Then we will work in small groups where people will be encouraged to share and record their own stories of citizenship.

In this way, the ideas behind the book will reach a much wider audience, and its impact will be enhanced.

So, a big thank you to all, the National Lottery players!

We are still working on these easy read documents, and they should be available soon. We are working closely with climate change activists to ensure our information is correct.
